Answer: As a designer, Whittaker has evolved from his earlier years as a generalist and is now an ardent Classicist and Traditionalist. He focuses on achieving a precise sense of visual and physical balance through symmetry, proportion, and harmony in design with respect to traditional and classical values. Whittakers design philosophy rejects the modern movement because the modern movement rejects tradition in architecture. In Whittakers opinion, is at the very core of each of his projects. In Classical architecture there exists a system by which the geometry of each part is related to that of the whole, giving a harmonious balance and repose to the entire facade and structure. Units (as well as subdivisions or multiples of units) play an essential role in the system of Classical proportion for the purpose of helping establish a harmonious, agreeable aesthetic throughout the entire building. In Modernism, no such harmonizing system exists. Whittaker remains critical and opinionated towards the continued efforts of the Modernist movement; including all aspects of art, architecture, interior design, art, fashion design, graphic design, and even performing arts.
