Answer: Systems manufactures a steel coupling system called Lumber Link. This 3/16" steel "socket", joins 6"x 6" rough-cut timbers or wood members, to create a clear span building frame. The standard Lumber Link kit can create an open area up to 30 feet wide. Extensions of 15 feet on each side will make the building 60 feet wide. The " 6"x 8" Hercules Fixture" allows for clear span widths of up to 60 feet with certain requirements. The building details are up to you. We also offer second floor steel I-beams with pre-welded tabs for the floor joists. Custom fixtures for cathedral ceilings, oversize side door openings, and more are available at your request. The spacing of each bay frame/ kit depends on which fixture you choose and the climate requirements of your location. Frames are assembled on the ground and raised into place using the foot locking system. No cranes or lifting equipment is needed and vertical supports are not set into cement, to eventually rot. Double your space with a second floor. We sell steel I-beams with tabs for floor joists, or you can use composite wood I-beams. The Gambrel roof is perfect for a spacious second floor working or living area. Lumber Link has been used to build pole barns, garages, additions, porches, carports, businesses, airplane hangers, commercial barns, storage facilities and homes. This versatile building system can be erected by contractors or the do-it-yourselfer. Complete building plans are available for sale on the website. Architectural engineering services are available for simple or detailed projects. We are glad to answer any of your questions. Be sure to check your local building requirements. Lumber Link is approved for stick-post building by the 2006 International Building Code. Call 800-724-8250 for details.
