Answer: Thank you for your interested in SHOWAbility... DISABILITY AWARENESS = Inclusion + Equity + Diversity We believe that EVERYBODY DESERVES A STAGE Our MISSION: To create opportunities that empower performing artists across the disability spectrum to share their talents, both within the disability community and the wider world. Our VISION: A world in which performing artists across the disability spectrum achieve all of their dreams, unencumbered by policies, systems, resource constraints and mindsets that limit their potential. The north star for SHOWAbility is to be for the arts/entertainment industry what the Paralympics and Special Olympics are for the sports industry, showcasing talent and excellence. Our HISTORY: Americas Songbird and U.S. Cultural Ambassador Myrna Clayton created SHOWAbility in 2009 after seeing a boy with cerebral palsy struggle to get on stage to sing. Once he began singing, the focus shifted to his beautiful voice. Compelled to counter unintended limitations in the arts for persons with disabilities, SHOWAbilitys mission-centered programming started with talent shows and now provides innovative, forward-thinking programming that educates, inspires and builds performance confidence on stage, in film and behind the camera. Witnessing individuals with disabilities transform from fearful, unsure performers to courageous artists and disability arts advocates is awe-inspiring!
