Answer: Second Harvest is Canadas largest food rescue organization. Were on a mission to grow our innovative, efficient food recovery network to fuel people and reduce the environmental impact of avoidable food waste. We believe that unsold surplus food should be rescued from across the supply chain and redirected to social service organization that feed communities. We have a network of non-profit, charitable and indigenous partners and locations across the country that help us do this work ensuring millions of pounds of food is rescued and redirected from landfills. In 2021 we rescued 41 million lbs of healthy perishable food and diverted it to more than 6400 food programs in charities and non-profits across Canada, averting over 162 million pounds of greenhouse gasses.
