Sarah Francis is a self taught vigneron-her passion is farming and growing wine. Extreme in detail, focusing on terroir site expression with quality standards of low yields- 1 to 2 clusters max per cane and no clusters touching, she monitors her vineyards walking them daily. Sarah Francis Wines produces just 1-4 barrels from each single vineyard designate having long term vineyard leases for her rows in some of the most sought after exclusive cabernet and chardonnay vineyards in Napa Valley: Beckstoffer Georges III in Rutherford, and Beckstoffer Carneros Lake in Carneros. These wines have earned her critical acclaim with perfect 100 scores awarded for the 2013 Cabernet Vintage(only her 3rd vintage as a winemaker) followed by 98 points for her 2014 vintage. In 2015, Sarah Francis exclusively secured a rare cabernet vineyard encompassing less than 4 acres total and took over farming herself-named The LEO, a 100% cabernet single vineyard commemorating her 5th vintage. In 2016, she acquired another exclusive cabernet vineyard in Oakville- less than 4 acres total. These are truly hand-made wines- she hand picks and hand sorts the grapes herself with her passionate team who come from all over the world to help harvest each vintage, and she is one of the few left in the world that chooses to hand de-stem her cabernet grapes berry by berry from the cluster into new custom made french oak barrels and barrel fermented in caves, hand spinning them daily through fermentation. Once fermentation is complete, she then removes the head of the barrels and captures the gravity free run juice and returns the wine back to new french oak barrels aging them for 3 years before bottling.
