Answer: The Rochester Association for Film Arts & Sciences, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation that exists to provide support for area individuals and groups that are interested in pooling and/or sharing their film knowledge with others. We encourage filmmakers to educate, mentor, provide internships, create events that promote filmmaking and create any other activity that supports our mission. We will do this in a variety of ways. 1. Fiscal Sponsorship: Using the Model C approach, we will allow filmmakers or subject matter experts to solicit funds through us as tax deductible donations if their project is approved by our Submissions Committee. These projects could be the making of a film or a workshop or a class. 2. Access to our Social Media Network: This would include Facebook, website and extensive email lists for advertising and promotion of approved projects. 3. Consulting Referral Service: A service that can introduce novice filmmakers with vetted subject matter experts for one on one consulting. 4. The Library: A curated collection of articles, podcasts, presentations, and videos on all aspects of filmmaking. 5. The Tom Hope Memorial Media Scholarship: An annual monetary award given to students based on their work in film. 6. The Shmoovies Film Festival: An exhibition of short films from New York State. RAFAS is a 100% volunteer organization. Donations are appreciated.
