Answer: Purdue University Fort Wayne is the largest university in northeast Indiana. As a Metropolitan University, we are uniquely positioned to serve the region as a crossroads of intellectual, social, economic, and cultural advancement and continue to expand our global reach through research, scholarship, and creative expression. The university combines challenging academics with a focus on student success across more than 200 degree programs, taught by over 350 full-time faculty. Approximately 8,300 students of diverse ages, races, and nationalities in our family pursue their education on our almost 700-acre campus. Nearly half of our students are first-generation college students and 15% are from underrepresented populations. And almost 75% of our students receive some form of financial assistance to achieve their academic and career goals. About half of our 57,000 alumni live and work in northeast Indiana, contributing to the regions economy, vitality, and intellectual strength. CAMPUS HISTORY Established in 1964 as Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), the campus brought together Indiana's two largest research universities with the goal of better serving the higher education needs of northeast Indiana. That partnership lasted over 50 years and saw thousands of students graduate with either (or even both) Purdue or IU degrees. In December 2016, the Purdue University and Indiana University Boards of Trustees approved a realignment agreement regarding the governance of the Fort Wayne campus. The outcome will allow each university to focus on its strengths and better meet the needs of the northeast Indiana region and beyond.
