Answer: From its start in 1988 as a single testing clinic in Salina, KS, Occupational Performance Corporation(OPC) has expanded into a network of 100 independently owned testing facilities located across the country. Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Gary Harbin, developed and patented the Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) Testing System in response to numerous industry requests for help in reducing work related injuries and associated workers compensation expense. Dr. Harbin, like nearly all medical treating professionals, found himself trying to determine at what level of strength his patients were; prior to an injury by measuring an uninjured limb or by making educated guesstimates from his education and experience. The PCP provides better objective medical information therefore reducing the treating professionals liability that comes from the subjective nature of similar products and processes. The PCP Testing System is used by medical teams for Post Offer or Pre-Placement testing, Fit for Duty and Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs). Through computerized software a comprehensive collection of 28 maximum strength measurements are collected in as little as thirty minutes. Results are available in minutes for both the medical team and employer. The medical information is obtained and measured utilizing standards from the Department of Labors(DOL) five classifications of work and the American Medical Association (AMA) Guides. The PCP testing system is ADA and HIPAA compliant and has successfully undergone EEOC audits. Unlike other employee fitness tests such as job simulation or physician physicals, the PCP provides objective baseline data about an employees maximum performance. Tests or physicals that do not record objective measurements are of little or no value in the rehabilitation process or in assisting with the reduction of workers compensation claims. Most state statutes support employers to only be responsible for the injury or degree of aggravation they caused.
