Answer: The MVLA High School Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization which raises money from its parent, alumni and business community to fund academic programs at local high schools within the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District. Since these programs are provided across the district, individual schools or organizations such as PTSAs or booster groups are unable to fund them. The Foundation maintains a paid Executive Director, and on an annual basis, elects its Board of Directors, comprised of parent and community volunteers. Their time and energy enable the Foundation to maintain extremely low operating expenses, so more of every dollar donated goes directly to student programs. Over $1.6 million was raised in 2016-17 to fund the following: STUDENT SUPPORT Reduced class sizes for freshman English and entry-level Math - $400,000 Coordinators for Tutorial Centers offering free tutoring assistance - $190,000 Student wellness initiatives $120,000 Extended library hours $120,000 SIS online access to class assignments, grades, grad status $35,000 Parent Education Speaker Series $11,000 ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT & INNOVATION Innovative Learning Grants - $100,000 Cloud connectivity, online resources and devices in the classroom - $140,000 COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS Coordinators and resources for College / Career Centers - $272,000 Naviance platform to assist in career assessment and college application process - $24,000 PSAT test fees for sophomores and juniors - $23,000 College visits for academic counselors and C&CC Coordinators - $40,000 NEW THIS YEAR: Expansion of AVID Program, PreACT for sophomores $100,000
