Answer: Here at Mission Viejo Montessori we strive to educate the whole child using the Montessori method and developmentally appropriate practices. Children are encouraged to explore their world and make their own observations through use of the Montessori manipulative materials. We also emphasize the fine arts and children ages two and older participate in music & movement, drama, art, and foreign language classes. We individualize the education of each child and involve families in the process as children grow. In supporting creativity, we foster our students self-esteem. Our core curriculum revolves around the five central Montessori learning areas: Practical Life (materials and lessons for learning skills that are practical for life), Sensorial (materials for learning to use all five senses in the discovery process), Cultural Arts (encompasses the subjects of zoology, botany, geography, history, and science), Mathematics (beginning with the most concrete concepts of learning numerals and amounts, then moving into the more abstract ideas at the childs individual pace), and Language Arts (materials designed for a comprehensive foundation in reading and writing). In learning to use technology (computers and cameras), we give our students a foundation for their future education, much of which is now accomplished through technological services.
