Answer: MicrobeDx is a molecular diagnostics company that seeks to revolutionize clinical microbiology. Overprescription of antibiotics has lead to an ongoing public health crisis, all precipitated by a lack of timely information. Our molecular assays are able to identify bacteria in direct testing of a clinical specimen and determine which antibiotics the pathogen is resistant and susceptible to. Our AST assay is phenotypic, measuring the bacterial growth response to an antibiotic. Phenotypic AST assays are applicable to all bacterial pathogens and, unlike genotypic assays, they don't need to keep up with an ever-expanding set of targets and genes that encode antibiotic resistance. Our assay enable physicians to have actionable information with 3 hours of patient encounter, allowing them to intelligently select the first dose of antibiotic a patient receives. Most importantly, the doctor can rule out the vast majority of patients who don't have an infection and thus don't need an antibiotic.
