Answer: Our Mission Statement: The Mission of the McLennan County Hunger Coalition is to facilitate the working relationships among the pantries, food rescue efforts, feeding programs, and food providers to provide nutritious food for families and individuals suffering from food insecurity and outright hunger in McLennan County. More Information: The McLennan County Hunger Coalition is a coalition of pantries, governmental organizations, feeding programs, hunger fighting groups, commercial food providers, and individuals, who have come together to alleviate hunger and food insecurity in the Heart of Texas area. Specifically the Coalitions efforts, working through the direct services of its member organizations and agencies, are to increase the communication and working relationships among local food pantries and other food providers in order to avoid duplication of services, insuring that the persons and families most in need are provided with supplemental and emergency food. The Coalition intends to accomplish this mission by promoting community support programs, including food drives, and food rescue efforts, as well as sponsoring Helpings, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, previously known as Food Stamps) Outreach, especially in the McLennan County area. In that connection the Coalition desires to serve as a principal vehicle to educate the local community regarding the issues of hunger and food insecurity among its citizens. In this way, the Coalition serves as the primary advocate for those suffering from hunger and food insecurity so that the food and basic nutrition needs of all local persons and families are met.
