Answer: Huruma International Ministries was formed to help care for impoverished children in the Horn of Africa, in response to the call of the Jericho Road. The Jericho Road was the setting of the parable of the Good Samaritan, in which Jesus explained what it meant to love our neighbor, and who our neighbor was. A Samaritan, someone considered an unworthy outcast in Jewish society, helped a man who had been beaten and robbed when a priest and a Levite refused to do so. Jesus asked which of the men was a neighbor to the man who needed help. The reply was, "The one who showed him mercy." Luke 10:37 (ESV) Then Jesus said to him: "You go and do likewise." In the Swahili New Testament, the word "mercy" in Luke 10:37 is translated "huruma." Huruma International Ministries was formed to fulfill the calling to "go and do likewise." Huruma's focus is on helping our neighbors - our brothers and sisters in Kenya.
