Answer: Hold On, Pain Ends (doing business as HOPE) is an Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to reduce social, cultural, and financial barriers to mental health by promoting mental healthcare accessibility and affordability. Our work is focused around the East Austin area, where we provide low-income and underserved populations unprecedented access to a selection of high-quality, board-certified M.D. psychiatrists specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy - 100% free of charge. We take a holistic approach towards patient care, and aim to expand our innovative main program to offer full-service mental health solutions that complement outpatient psychiatric care with other important considerations such as access to antidepressant medication, reliable transportation, and community support networks. As of current, we offer at no cost two comprehensive programs - an informational online blog and an anonymous, 24/7, text-based chatline. Our blog offers a multi-dimensional perspective on mental health; it challenges social and cultural stigma surrounding mental illnesses by combining editorial commentary and personal narrative to offer insight on controversial, commonly avoided, yet necessary topics of discussion. Our chatline, meanwhile, offers an accessible, first-response solution. As an online program, anyone globally with a mobile device or laptop and an internet connection can use our service, putting a less invasive alternative to voice-based hotline well within reach for many.
