The mission of High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA) is to protect the health and natural beauty of the land, rivers, and wildlife in and around Gunnison County now and for future generations. HCCA was founded in 1977as High Country Citizens Allianceto protect Gunnison County from a proposed molybdenum mine on Mt. Emmons, known by locals as Red Lady, just west of Crested Butte. Since our founding we have become Gunnison Countys environmental leader, protecting public lands, waters, and wildlife in an area covering more than 3,500 square miles. HCCA is a grassroots organization that collaborates with local stakeholders and policymakers, applies sound science, and upholds the environmental laws affecting our community.
