Answer: The words "Equal Justice Under Law" are etched onto the facade of the United States Supreme Court. However, too often, our legal system falls short of that goal, especially for people living in poverty. Equal Justice Under Law is a national civil rights legal nonprofit dedicated to achieving equality in our justice system by challenging wealth-based discrimination and helping to end the role that government plays in continuing the cycle of poverty. We believe everyone should be treated equally, regardless of wealth-status. Unfortunately, our society currently operates two systems of justice: one for the rich and another for everyone else. Since our founding in 2014, we have litigated 30 cases challenging wealth inequality in 14 states. 18 of our cases have successfully reached settlement. Our work has achieved policy reform across 9 states and the District of Columbia & helped to fuel statewide reform efforts in California and Michigan.
