Answer: Choral Chameleon was founded by Vince Peterson in 2008 to: break barriers between genres of music, maintain high standards irrespective of the idiom, pursue an aggressive commissioning agenda, redefine the word concert and foster an ever-growing, ever-changing community of healthy choral singing in New York City. The professional ensemble has been hailed by TimeOut New York as shape-shifting and poetic. Innovative concert experiences have included walking concerts in Central Park, Taste concerts - which paired specially-designed complex-flavored food bites with specific musical moments, staged oratorios with ensemble movement and a concert for choir and electronics which filtered ensemble voices against themselves and choral storytelling with puppetry. In 2012, four years after the Choral Chameleon ensemble was founded, and having successfully launched an educational initiative for Composers and Conductors of choral music the previous year, the quickly growing organization founded an avocational chorus. The chorus is often co-led through the rehearsal and performance process by Vince Peterson in tandem with other professional musicians from the Choral Chameleon roster who sing, conduct, play, write, arrange, and administer - all on a volunteer basis. In its short life, Choral Chameleon has provided three year-length Composer residencies and has founded, and annually hosted, five eight-day Summer Institutes in June to cultivate superb choral artistry in emerging composers and conductors. These Institutes, which welcome renowned faculty members, including multiGrammy award winners Matthew Oltman (Chanticleer) and Vance George (San Francisco Symphony Chorus), have all culminated in a public performance by the ensemble of the brand-new work created there, with a number of these works entering their repertoire. In 2015, Choral Chameleon was honored by Chorus America/ASCAP; receiving the Award for Adventurous Programming of Choral Music.
