Who is Ceci though? It all started when she was very little. She used to sneak into the kitchen, uninvited, while they were preparing the "knead" (a Colombian idiolect referring to the making of bread and cake mixtures). She would sit at a long wooden table that she remembers vividly; sink her little hands in the dough, shape it into wobbly spheres, feel so grown up in the process. Then wait, swinging her legs happily, dreamingamidst the scent starting to creep from the ovenof the time when the goods would be baked and she would claim a hefty portion. But that wasnt all, Ceci also swooned over sugared jelly candies and loved rice pudding. When she was older, shed prepare masato (popular fermented beverage) and salpicon (tropical fruit salad drink) and sell them after school. She liked business intuitivelythe buzzing expectation of customersbut above all, she liked to feed and care for people. "Ceci's Kitchen" is a homage to those whom, like Ceci, conjure an exuberant garden on arid land; who dust things off, open windows, mop the floors with cinnamon water, and banish melancholy with a steaming homemade dish.
