Answer: Welcome to Campus Bound Scholars! If you are a first gen student off to college in the fall and feel underprepared and overwhelmed, let us help. Perhaps you're an adult interested in mentoring a first gen college student or you're an employer who'd like to connect with a pool of prospective first gen interns and/or future employees. Maybe your business or organization would like to offer our students the opportunity to learn about what you do. A bit about Campus Bound Scholars (CBS): Every college freshman faces challenges settling into life on campus, but low-income and first generation students face extra hurdles. They may feel they don't belong and are unprepared for college life. The sad fact is that only 40% of first-generation students graduate within 6 years. CBS aims to prevent that from happening by matching an experienced adult mentor to each student selected to be a Campus Bound Scholar. Our mentors are college educated working or retired professionals who have undergone a rigorous training program and screenings. They provide our students with support, guidance, information, and friendship during the summer prior to departure and throughout the college years. Our students also receive an award of $1000 yearly as well as $200 worth of dorm and school supplies to help prepare for life on a college campus. Please visit our website for more information and to download our student and mentor applications or contact cwelch@campusboundscholars.org.
