Answer: The California Water Association (CWA) represents regulated water utilities that are invested in California water and the future of our state. There are over 90 regulated water utilities across California serving more than 6 million customers. Our members are water professionals who live and work in the communities they serve. Theyre dedicated to building water infrastructure, supporting the sustainability of our natural resources, and delivering clean and reliable drinking water to customers and communities across California. CWA member companies are regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), an independent state agency responsible for establishing utility rates and guidelines for service. The CPUC shares responsibility for regulating drinking water quality with the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB). CWA works with members to inform regulation that impacts our members and the customers they serve, while sharing our expertise with the CPUC, SWRCB, and other policy makers.
