CSM has been a leader in providing private water sub-metering systems and water management services for Californias homeowners for 30 years! At CSM we have always felt strongly about water conservation and individual accountability, and our solution was simple: water sub-metering. Sub-metering involves placing individual sub-meters behind the citys master meter for your community. Typically, multifamily communities have one master city water meter which services all residents. Water and sewer costs are divided equally among the residents and included in the monthly homeowners dues. This worked well when water and sewer rates where a fraction of the cost they are today, and when water shortages were not an issue. In todays California environment, sub-metering is an effective solution to manage overuse of water and the rising costs associated with it. Sub-metering allows for an equitable distribution of cost; individual homeowners are paying only for the water they use. Most importantly, sub-metering promotes water conservation.
