Answer: The Avon Lake Fire Department is staffed 24-hours, 7-days per week by State of Ohio Licensed Professional Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedics who are also trained in confined space entry, technical rescue (including water rescue) and many other specific emergency and non-emergency response disciplines. Platoon personnel begin work at 7:00 AM and remain on duty until 7:00 AM the next morning when they are relieved by another platoon. During that time period, personnel are not only responsible for prompt and professional response to all types of emergency and non-emergency calls, but also attend regularly-scheduled training sessions, conduct vehicle & equipment maintenance, fire hydrant flushing and preventative maintenance, building and grounds maintenance, and assist in the many department special programs serving the general public.
