Answer: Americans for Medical Progress (AMP) is a team of subject-matter experts that helps create and maintain an environment where essential medical advances can continue to be made by companies and academic institutions in the research community. AMP's mission is to reach, inform, and encourage individuals to understand and speak up in support of the vital work underway in research centers around the world; to build public appreciation of the vital role of humane animal-based research in the discovery process; to stand against the naysayers, extremists and others who would block medical progress. We offer individuals and research institutions cutting-edge news and analysis about activist threats to biomedical research through our AMP News Service. We also provide strategic confidential consultations on security, public affairs and crisis management to those facing immediate challenges. We promote fair and accurate media coverage about responsible animal-based research and the high standards of care laboratory animals receive. We reach out to journalists and opinion leaders to provide balance, background and context for their understanding of animal-based research issues, and to expose animal rights activists' distortions, propaganda and lies. AMP also builds support for research through several innovative education programs and vibrant online and print resources designed to win hearts and minds. We reach, inspire and inform a new generation of research advocates through the AMP/Michael D. Hayre Fellowship in Public Outreach - our Fellows create unique and lasting programs advancing public understanding and appreciation of the role of animals in medical advancement. We share our resources with other research advocacy groups and institutions and work collaboratively to bring a multidisciplinary focus on specific concerns facing biomedical research today.
