Answer: American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Veterans Service Organization dedicated to equity and inclusion for all present and former service members of the United States Armed Forces and our families. We are the nation's oldest LGBTQ+ VSO. We support equal access to benefits, fair recognition and promotion, evidence-based medical care from the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs, and uniform standards that honor the diversity and of service members and fully support the mission of the U.S. Military. We are a chapter-based organization where LGBTQ+ men and women can find support and healing from the trauma caused by serving under policies that discriminated against our service and forced us to hide who we were in order the serve the country we love.
