In 2020, a projected 50 million Americans experienced food insecurityand yet, over 40% of our nations food never reached peoples plates; it ended up in landfills, where it produces harmful methane gas. Founded in 2012 as Waste Not OC, Abound offers a food care model that addresses both challenges. By working with partners to create local food care ecosystems, Abound empowers organizations to recover excess edible food and safely deliver it to people, rather than wasting it. In 2020 alone, Abounds partners recovered over 23 million pounds of food equivalent to over 19 million meals and 20,000 metric tons of CO 2 emissions avoided locally.
